Press Release
Puerto Ayora, Galapagos – May 30, 2008
The Galapagos National Park (GNP) confirmed that since yesterday evening, Thursday the 29th of May, the volcano Cerro Azul located on Isabela island, has been in the state of eruption. This afternoon, the GNP will carry out a flight over the area to determine the exact location and magnitude of the event. The Charles Darwin Foundation (CDF) and its team of scientists are ready to collaborate with the GNP in order to remove and safeguard certain species in the area that could be threatened by the eruption. The eruption of the volcano Cerro Azul is a natural process due to the volcanic origin of the Galapagos islands. The last eruption was recorded in 1998
