Galapagos educational reform

The 1998 Special Law for Galapagos calls for comprehensive educational reform, with the goal of incorporating "environmental preservation and conservation issues and the socio-economic characteristics of the Province (of Galapagos)".

CDF has taken a leading role in developing participative learning methods and new education programs which aim to give Galapagos residents, particularly young people, the knowledge and skills they will need to play a positive leadership role in managing Galapagos.

Working in partnership with the education authorities in the Galapagos Islands, CDF is developing a curriculum of environmental education, based on programs that have been running for several years in the CDF Environmental Education Centers. During 2006, CDF hopes to develop this curriculum for a pilot program in the schools of Santa Cruz island, prior to rolling it out to all schools in Galapagos.
