The CDF sets priorities for its Technical Assistance program in consultation with the Galapagos National Park Service and other partners.
In 2006, the following priorities have been identified:
- to complete Project Isabela and begin implementation of a major follow-up program of island restoration and monitoring
- to continue supporting participatory management of the Galapagos Marine Reserve
- to work with the Galapagos National Park to in addressing emerging threats from introduced diseases including avian malaria, West Nile Virus and Bird Flu
- to continue support for the captive rearing of giant tortoises, iguanas and other species as required.
- to rehabilitate the tortoise populations on Pinta Island and to ensure recovery of mangrove finches in Galapagos
- to re-evaluate and refocus CDF´s education work with the aim of strengthening the future leadership of Galapagos
- to support a stronger local civil society conservation voice that can balance the local drive toward uncontrolled development driven by external markets
- to support sustainable business development in Galapagos
CDF relies on the generosity of donors to achieve all these aims. Find out how to help
