Joselyn Yar
Research Assistant
Joselyn Yar is a permanent resident of the Galapagos Islands. She began as a volunteer at CDF in 2013 where she collaborated for 8 months on the Philornis and Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas) projects.
In 2019, she graduated from the Central University of Ecuador, obtaining a degree in Ecological Tourism. A few months later she rejoined the Philornis project team.
Currently, she collaborates with laboratory and field activities. She is also helping conduct research on natural enemies of Philornis downsi, in order to find a candidate, which can be used in a biological control program against this harmful fly.

Control of the avian vampire flyIn a race against time, our scientists are working hard to find ways to control the avian vampire fly (Philornis downsi), an invasive parasitic fly that is affecting the survival of the unique small landbirds of the Galapagos Islands, including the iconic Darwin’s finches.
