Magally Infante
Research Assistant
Magally Infante Bimbosa is a permanent resident of Galapagos. Growing up in the “Enchanted Islands” allowed her to get involved with the conservation of the place where she lives.
In 2018, she started working on the Philornis project as a local volunteer, while at the same time, finishing her undergraduate thesis at the Central University of Ecuador (Galapagos). In 2019 she graduated obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences.
Currently, she works as a research assistant in the Philornis project. She is responsible for rearing large numbers of Philornis downsi that are used to test control methods. She also collaborates on field studies.

Control of the avian vampire flyIn a race against time, our scientists are working hard to find ways to control the avian vampire fly (Philornis downsi), an invasive parasitic fly that is affecting the survival of the unique small landbirds of the Galapagos Islands, including the iconic Darwin’s finches.
