Important Announcement

13 Mar 20 /

The Charles Darwin Foundation would like to announce that Dr. Arturo Izurieta will no longer continue as Executive Director at the end of his contract period on March 31, 2020.

Since 2015, Dr. Izurieta has guided the Charles Darwin Foundation through a crucial period of its 60-year history. Under his leadership, CDF signed a 25-year Agreement with the Government of Ecuador, secured important sponsorship and grants and strengthened relations with the local community, international and national partners, the Galapagos National Park Directorate, the Galapagos Governing Council and the Government of Ecuador. We sincerely thank Dr. Izurieta for his remarkable dedication to the Galapagos and the Charles Darwin Foundation.

Beginning April 1st, CDF Director of Science Dr. María José Barragán will oversee day-to-day management as Interim Executive Director. Projects and activities, including research and participation in international conferences, will continue as normal during this transition.

We look forward to working with key stakeholders to ensure CDF’s future, as we identify its next Executive Director -- someone worthy of its great history, who has the management and diplomatic skills required to ensure CDF’s future, and the future health of the unique planetary treasure that is the Galapagos Islands.

Please contact cdrs@fcdarwin.org.ec if you have questions or would like further information about CDF and its Research Station.

Sincerely,

Board of Directors
Charles Darwin Foundation
